Spring Changes

Last week was probably the most busy and emotional week I've had in years! It went a little like this:

MONDAY: 10 hour day working on the final details of Mercy's Chosen Children fundraiser.
TUESDAY: 12 hour day working on the MCC fundraiser that evening.
WEDNESDAY: 9 hour day finishing up things in the office for my LAST day working at MCC.
THURSDAY: 8 hour day starting a new job with Big Brothers Big Sisters.
FRIDAY: 8 hour day working for BBBS and trying to figure out what the heck I'm supposed to do.

That's right, I've started a new job! It still hasn't completely sunk in yet. My decision about leaving Mercy's Chosen Children after almost 3 years was a difficult one with many tears involved. However, God really opened up doors for me and the choice was clear. I'm now working 7 miles from home (still pinching myself over this!) at Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Chattanooga. I'm the Site-Based Mentoring Director. I'm in charge of the case management of Big/Little matches that are based in the school system. After 7 work days behind me in this new role I'm starting to get the hang of things, but still have a lot to learn. I'm happy and excited about this next step in my career.

American Idol is Glamorous

I've been rather stressed out this week and American Idol last night helped release some of my stress. Needless to say, I will never be able to listen to this song the same way again.

A Gospel According to Yoda?

I've never been a huge fan of Lord of the Rings and Star Wars. I don't find anything wrong with the movies themselves or the people who enjoy watching them. I personally have difficulty relating to the excitement people have for them and the state of shock I often receive from fans when I "confess" I could care less about these movies. One thing I still don't understand is why these type of films have such a cult-like following. The sociological side of me is curious to understand why people stay out all night in the cold to be the first to watch the newest movie in the series. Or better yet, people who travel hundreds of miles each year for conventions about a fictional movie.

This NPR story just adds to my lack of interest in these type of films. There is now a church, yes an established religion, based on the ways of the Jedi. My first reaction was to laugh at the ridiculous basis of this church. Soon my laughter turned to feeling so sad for these people who seek to become a master Jedi instead of seeking real truth and a real force that can only be found in God.
